A Researcher was researching cabaret dancers in Cuba and spending a lot of time with them. She gets a call from one inviting her to a local restaurant. He has illegally tapped his girlfriend's (another cabaret dancer's) phone and found her cheating on him. He wants the researcher to let people know this. She refuses and he tells everybody who become sucked into a discussion about Farah's morality and the morality of cabaret dancers in general, with some claiming they are halfway to being prostitutes and others arguing that it is a societal problem that demean and refuse to respect their profession. This is precisely the topic of the researcher's PhD. The researcher reflected on whether she could include the material from these discussions including the discussion of Farah's behaviour. An initial problem was confidentiality and changing contextual details so that Farah was not recognisable but another problem was that, on reflection, she decided the dancers had not been talking to her as a researcher but as a friend. She decided whilst she could include general discussions about the morality of cabaret dancers she could not include discussion around this particular incident.
